Which is the best video calling app on slow internet speed?

IMO works just fine on slow speed internet, even on a 2G and it has a good userbase too. Other not so popular apps do not have a user base to brag about.
If you even have 3G I’d recommend Google Duo. It works fine with 3G. Whatsapp video calling doesn’t require a superfast internet either. More or less, they all are same. They all use similar methodology.
You need to use apps that have good userbase else you’d go hunting different app for each function that would create a huge junk on your phone.
If an app could provide different functionalities like whatsapp provides video/voice/text/documents sharing etc, you should not use telegram for texting, hike for documents sharing, whatsapp for chatting, duo or imo for video calling and viber for voice calling side by side. This is a very stupid idea to be honest.
If anyone believes one app could provide better video calling as compared to other, it is a myth. There is surely a slight difference but nothing that you could notice. In severe cases whatsapp may drop call or make it voice only on very slow internet but imo doesn’t. Call would drop on any app in the world if your internet is laggy and becomes unresponsive for long durations in a few intervals. It is not the fault of app. 3G/4G packs are cheaper than 2G and 2G is going out soon. In India however, I was getting 50mbps on airtel but it is now capped to 10mbps by airtel in day time and 20mbps in night. 4G with 3G speeds it is. I checked with my vodafone without any internet pack, I was getting 32mbps with 3G internet so, I can say Airtel has capped the speed.
Here are five of my favorite apps for making free Wi-Fi calls.
  • Google Voice. As the most used application on my phone, Google Voice also works well on tablets. ...
  • Fring. One of the features I appreciate the most in Fring is the ability to freely call other Fring users around the world. ...
  • Skype. ...
  • KakaoTalk. ...
  • Tango. ...
